Abstract

Due to the growing popularity of TikTok, Reels, and YouTube Shorts, several questions have arisen. However, the most important was the impact these types of platforms can have on adolescents' cognitive functions. The aim of this research was to evaluate the impact of short-form video (SFV) consumption on adolescents' executive functions. Fifty-one adolescents between the ages of 15 and 18 from Pachuca de Soto, Hidalgo, Mexico, participated in the study. A questionnaire on SFS consumption and the BANFE-3 neuropsychological battery were administered to assess participants' executive functions. Correlational statistical tests were then performed between the results of both assessments. A significant negative-moderate correlation was found between SFS consumption and performance in the anterior prefrontal area. This suggests a negative impact on cognitive functions in this region. It was concluded that it is necessary to moderate the use of SFS platforms, as it can affect essential functions in adolescence.
